The Titans cabin layout was updated for better comfort. It was also given more boxy styling, and a wide-cab model that stretched two meters across was added to the range.

The new Capella adopted a front-engine, front-wheel drive layout and won the third Japan Car of the Year award. It became the main production model of Mazda's recently opened Hofu plant at Yamaguchi prefecture.

The Savanna RX-7 Cabriolet was introduced to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Rotary engine's launch. It features a three-stage roof system that could be fully open, topless (similar to a targa top), or closed.
